- Creating Opportunities for Collaboration
Our work is an honor, a privilege and a responsibility that we take seriously. Using our skills, networks, creativity and resources, we push the boundaries of what is possible in the realm of charitable giving and nonprofit initiatives. Below is a sample of Wishbone’s current projects, demonstrating the breadth of our work with individuals, corporations, nonprofits and strategic initiatives.
Individual Consulting: The Serena Williams Fund
Wishbone serves as Philanthropic Advisor to professional tennis player, Serena Williams. Professional athletes and celebrities occupy a unique space in our society, and their name recognition can be used as leverage to further any cause. Even within this category, Serena stands apart as an athletic and historical icon both in our country and around the globe. The impact Serena can wield through her philanthropy is prodigious, and Wishbone is honored to steer this work.
Wishbone is partnering with Serena to identify the causes she most cares about and create a strategic path toward catalyzing social impact in those particular arenas. As with all of our individual clients, Wishbone focuses on best practices in philanthropy and targeted, mission-driven giving to ensure excellent results.
Charitable Giving: Education and Training:
National Basketball Association
In order to help the NBA educate their employees on the nuances of philanthropy, Wishbone designed an education and training platform for the Player Marketing, Player Development, and Social Responsibility staff at NBA headquarters. Committed to serving as an educational resource on philanthropic best practices and IRS governance, Wishbone will conduct ongoing training for the NBA’s players and staff.
Spearheading Strategic Initiatives: Huddle Up
Wishbone Consulting is designing and implementing Huddle Up, a timely initiative addressing the root causes of our country’s African American male achievement gap and ongoing racial inequalities. With a grant from the Kellogg Foundation, Wishbone is bringing together school administrators, law enforcement agencies, civic leaders, community organizations, concerned parents, and funding partners in four distinct communities around the country to foster meaningful discussion around race relations and improved educational outcomes for minority youth. We are collaborating with esteemed philanthropists, professional athletes, and celebrities to shed light on this initiative and help get the Huddle Up pilot programs off the ground. Our goal is to generate true, lasting change in the realm of racial equity and minority youth achievement outcomes.
Creating Opportunities for Collaboration:
Driving Force Giving Circle
In 2012, Wishbone founded Driving Force Giving Circle (DFGC), a nonprofit entity dedicated to collaborative philanthropic opportunities. DFGC serves as the host for clients’ donor advised funds, sponsored projects, and for progressive initiatives such as Huddle Up. In addition, DFGC educates individuals and organizations on IRS governance and best practices. Most importantly, DFGC provides both veteran and amateur philanthropists a space in which to network and leverage one another’s philanthropic gifts, reach, and passion with the ultimate goal of helping to create a more equitable world.
